 2018 Toyota Tundra Overview

The medium size truck is seeing intense competition and the market are getting quite crowded. Hence it has been a practice for almost many years now for various medium-size truck owners to come out regular updates and upgrades to their main selling models. However, there is one exception to this rule and it is Toyota. It has not done so since 2014 and therefore today there is lot of excitement when they are planning to give a facelift and upgrade their Tundra. It has been around for ten years now and therefore it is high time that the truck got a face lift. That is what is happening and it might be 2018 before we actually see the much talked about 2018 Toyota Tundra on the roads.

However, this does not prevent us from guessing as to what the changes will be as far as this model of Toyota is concerned. It would be pertinent to mention here that the failure to upgrade the Tundra has led to slippage in the market share in this highly lucrative segment

What To Expect

While there is no doubt Toyota is working hard to come with an all new model of the Tundra, we do not know what exactly to expect. There are expectations that the truck will have a new chassis, engines and body. All these are badly needed because they need to take on their rivals who have stolen a head start because of lethargy on part of Toyota. However there is something special about Tundra which others might not be possessing.

It is perhaps one of the few cars which have the most American parts in it. It also is considered to be one the sturdiest and durable pickup trucks in the market today. There is hardly any doubt that when the new 2018 Toyota Tundra hits the road these traits will not be lost sight of. But the mystery still remains. Not many people are able to find out the reason as to why this long overdue upgrade has been delayed so inordinately.

Chassis And Body

Taking some clues from the grapevine and also taking into account previous upgrades there are reasons to believe that the new model might be designed from the ground up. It is expected that the body will be made of high quality and strong steel and it also will come with an enclosed frame. Though it might be quite heavy it certainly will be extremely tough and durable. The body of the truck might also go in for some change. Unlike the F150 which used aluminum the 2018 version will see steel being used.

However, there is a possibility that the hood and fenders and even the bed might be made from quality aluminum. This again will enhance the life of the truck. It will help customers to have a platform which is more durable. However, there is very little information trickling out as far as the designs features are concerned (outside and inside included). The price of the new model also remains more of guesswork because of lack of flow of information.

New Cabin Expected

Apart from complete overhaul of the chassis and body, the inside cabin will also go through major changes. The size of the cabin might remain the same and this is because even today as far as midsized pickup trucks are concerned, Tundra continues to be one of the largest out there in the market. The interior will certainly go through a complete overhaul. What we can expect is modern look, softer materials and a dashboard having more functions and lesser number of buttons.

How The Engines Might Look

There is not much information about how the engine of the 2018 Toyota Tundra is likely to be. However, there is certainty that the current 4.6 and 5.7 liter engines will not come back. They have aged over the years and many more efficient variants are available in the market. There are reasons that Toyota may go in for turbocharged engines. Though they may not have the technology they could be in talks with BMW for getting a suitable engine for their new model. If this happens the engine will certainly come with a horsepower ranging from 350 to 500 units which is much more than the previous versions. Further there also is a possibility of having a V6 twin turbocharged engine. Though these are unconfirmed news, a diesel version will be there for sure. It is quite likely that the 5.0 liter Cummins or Hino diesel engine will be under the as far as the new Tundra is concerned.

Release Date And Price

Though it may not be possible to exactly predict the release date there is a possibility that it might be released during the end of 2017. It might coincide with Christmas and New Year and there also is a possibility that it might be released much earlier. However, all these are speculations and since everything is in the design stage things will be clear only when the full designed and approved prototype comes out into the market. As far as the price is concerned, it should be in the range of $30,000.

They cannot afford to price it higher because they have stiff competition to take care of. They also cannot be expected to price it lower because of the various changes which they are planning to bring. All these will certainly add a lot of additional cost. The new engine, the improved aerodynamics, improved quality of body materials, improved navigation and lighting system are all attributes which will make it rather difficult for Toyota to bring the price down below $30,000. However, this is a great price and it certainly will offer good value for money to its customers.

Final Words

At the end of the day there is hardly any doubt that there is lot of hope and expectation as far as the new version of 2018 Toyota Tundra is concerned. The reason for this expectation is mainly because it has been more than three years since the last update was made available and therefore the 2018 update is long overdue. Coming from Toyota it certainly evinces lot of interest and customers believe that they will not be disappointed.
